My clients wanted to open and expand their existing kitchen to the adjacent living and dining rooms, creating a great room by eliminating confining walls.

With a few structural limitations, we decided on a floorplan that left very few elements in place, drastically changing the entire look of the space. By moving a window and removing the slider, we were able to create a functional flow within the kitchen that expanded into the surrounding areas.

The elimination of the existing kitchen walls not only opened that area of the home, but allowed for the kitchen to have a bigger footprint. Counter space was prime real estate in their original kitchen. However, with the new layout, we were able to add more counter surface, better cabinet storage and organization and a large eat-at island that only enhanced the functionality of the kitchen.

My clients wanted to incorporate a clean, modern feel throughout, but with character. With white outer cabinets, we added a touch of contrast with a wood island topped with sleek grey counters. Mosaic tile was added behind the range as a decorative accent to the surrounding white subway tile. A mixture of stainless steel and wrought iron accents created an industrial feel, complimenting their modern style.

In opening the kitchen to the rest of the living space, we needed to continue that same design style throughout.

We were able to achieve this by using the same material in unique ways in each space. The kitchen counter material became the fireplace hearth. The same wood used for the mantel was also used for the top trim on the pony wall next to the kitchen island. Wood and wrought iron accents can be seen in the lighting, both in the entry and dining room. New flooring and paint enhance the continuity of each area of the great room.

With the rest of the great room top floor being renovated, the powder room needed a little attention as well.

31E Designs was an essential part of our main floor renovation from start to finish! We could not have done it without her! The scope and scale of our project felt so intimidating, we didn’t know where to start. Erin knew, and she jumped right in. She initially drew up several design options for our kitchen & great room then worked with us to finalize a design plan that met our needs exactly. She worked with us every step of the way, helping secure excellent vendors and resources for everything from cabinets to flooring and tile. We could not be more thrilled with the finished product and would recommend 31E Designs to anyone considering a major or minor remodel of their living space!
Are you ready for a space as unique as you are?
